Pledge to Attorneys

Our commitment to excellence and professional integrity in legal support services.

  1. 1

I pledge to Use my skills as a Virtual Bankruptcy Assistant solely to support licensed bankruptcy attorneys — never to work directly for the general public.

  2. 2

I pledge to Refer at least two licensed bankruptcy attorneys to any potential client interested in filing bankruptcy, upholding my commitment to preventing the unauthorized practice of law.

  3. 3

I pledge to Continually sharpen my ability to think and respond with the clear, logical mind that legal work demands.

  4. 4

I pledge to Base my business decisions on professional ethics, not personal beliefs or emotion.

  5. 5

I pledge to Safeguard the interests of my colleagues and clients, and never knowingly take part in illegal or unethical activity.

  6. 6

I pledge to Protect any confidential information I encounter in the course of my work, and never use it for personal gain or to the detriment of a client or any other party.

  7. 7

I pledge to Represent my skills honestly, recognize my limitations, and only offer services I'm genuinely competent to provide.

  8. 8

I pledge to Refer client work to other qualified VBAs whenever a task falls outside my own skills, training, or ability.

  9. 9

I pledge to Put each attorney's best interest first, making sure I have the skills and resources needed before taking on a client relationship.

  10. 10

I pledge to Take responsibility for my work, own my mistakes, and do whatever it takes to make things right with the attorneys I serve.

  11. 11

I pledge to Keep accurate, thorough records of every task I perform, and provide attorneys with a detailed, accurate invoice.

  12. 12

I pledge to Protect and back up all client data, and provide it to the attorney at no cost, in a secure format, upon request.

  13. 13

I pledge to Practice diligent identity-theft prevention — shredding credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, and other sensitive debtor or attorney information once it's no longer needed for the case.

  14. 14

I pledge to Maintain the highest level of professionalism at all times, and never misrepresent any authority entrusted to me.

Pledge to Fellow Virtual Bankruptcy Assistants

The same integrity we bring to attorneys, we bring to each other.

  1. 15

I pledge to Never take part in libel, slander, or any activity — including negative posts on blogs, forums, or social media — that could damage another virtual assistant's professional reputation.

  2. 16

I pledge to Never engage in copyright infringement or theft of another virtual assistant's intellectual property.

  3. 17

I pledge to Compete fairly, and never engage in unfair business practices.

  4. 18

I pledge to Never poach clients from other virtual assistants — instead, look for ways to collaborate that benefit everyone involved.

  5. 19

I pledge to Respect that others' opinions, values, and beliefs are just as valid as my own.

  6. 20

I pledge to Never use confidential information gained through a professional relationship with a colleague for my own personal benefit.

  7. 21

I pledge to Treat fellow NAVBA members like a support family — working toward shared goals, treating one another with respect, and conducting myself with the utmost professionalism.

The NAVBA Excellence

As a professional member of the National Association of Virtual Bankruptcy Assistants, I understand my ethical responsibilities to attorneys, debtors, and myself. I conduct myself with the highest degree of integrity and take full responsibility for my actions and their outcomes. I only provide services consistent with my current level of competence, and I inform attorneys of any conditions that may limit my effectiveness. I hold myself fully accountable for my work — I admit my mistakes and correct them immediately. Attorneys and debtors are my top priority, and I act as a representative of my attorneys, protecting their interests at all times. I continually look for ways to improve, educating myself and updating my skills. And I work as a team player within the virtual assistant community, never intentionally harming the professional reputation or practice of another virtual assistant or anyone I do business with.
